a color maven

I happened upon the loveliest little blog yesterday. While I love her necklaces, Kristina Klarin's photos + color schemes are simply GORGEOUS. Her knack for color could be a great tool for selecting paints & a color scheme. And even if you aren't painting a room any time soon, it's a lovely little place to visit.

lemony fresh

stumbled upon this little dream of a room over @ knack. old ceiling tiles turned wall art using a few lovely shades of yellow. i think i may have just developed a craving for a lemon bar....

organized!

after reading about the johnson's and their lack of waste & excess, i got inspired to tackle my own closet. do i really need everything it contains? do i even wear half of what it contains? i went thru, sorted every article; figured out what i wear, what i don't & why. turns out i was lacking a few basics, and i needed to part with more than a few things. took my unwanted items into a resale shop & got a little cash.

i then took said cash & bought what i was missing. low and behold, i have a fully functional wardrobe. i can now wear things that have been on hangers for years. literally.

and so i am going to highly recommend starting the new year off right, sorting, eliminating & acquiring (only the few things you are needing of course). cheers!

a simpler life

meet the johnson's; 2 kids, 2 cars, a 1400 square foot home in mill valley, ca AND virtually no waste. their discipline & practical ways of living are truly inspiring to those who wish to leave a smaller footprint on the planet in the coming year.

just how do they do it?
bea johnson uses reusable jars, fabric bags & totes for ALL of her food items. little or nothing is packaged. with recycling centers overflowing, bea is conscious of even the amount of recyclables her household produces.

as for the wardrobe, bea is one thrifty & organized mama; keeping her kiddos equipped with just the basics & doing it second hand whenever possible. each of the boys has 7 casual tops, 1 dress shirt, 4 bottoms, 3 pairs of shoes + 1 pair of pjs per season.
